Titles & Metas – Other Tab

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

This is the other sections of the Titles and Meta section of SEO, this is where we hid stuff that we don’t know where to put it’s mostly to deal with side white Meta set in setting and stuff that you can set once and then forget about forever. There are four of them so let’s go through them.

0:27 first of all there is this subpages of Archives. if you are on page 2 of a category or page two of page two of your front page Archives you might not want to show those pages in the search results because you only want to show the first of an Archives in the search results this should be taken care of by real equals and real equals next, which is something we’ve implemented completely into the SEO. But if you don’t want to rely on that on just Add or if you don’t trust Google you can set this no and x. And no real other harm will be done it just means that you are page two and third will never show up in the search results.

1:16 now this is not often useful but in some cases it might be. The next setting is there are purely because they are people in the world that insist on using the Meta key words tag. I have a strong dislike for the Meta Keywords tag because basically it doesn’t work it just makes you waste your time. So by default we do not show it, but if you want to show it you can enable it here and you’ll have a Meta keywords tag in those Meta box and it will show up in the Meta Keywords in the head section of your site. I don’t know why that but some people still want to do it.

2:01 The other two have to deal with specific Meta Robots tags that dedicate how a search engine can use your descriptions in other directories to show your site. This is a weird thing but if your site is listed in the open directory project then Google might sometimes use the description from the mas in the search results to show for your site instead of your own description. If you don’t want them to do that then enable this here. Now you might think that this is something that you should always have and that is completely through because most of the time it’s not needed.

2:49 What we do though, if you set a Meta description for a specific page then we enable know the by tag by default, so this site wide setting is really full back for other cases which rarely ever happens which is why it is so hidden. The same is true for no why their Meta robots tag. This is the same 3:12 (inaudible) except that it uses the Yahoo Directory which doesn’t even really exist anymore. So this setting is hidden and will probably be deleted at some point in time.
